Merry Xmas!

The presents are wrapped, the ham’s cooked, the fridge is full to bursting and we’re all a bit exhausted, but all that’s left to do now is crack open the sherry and wait for the family to turn up.
We’re spending Christmas at home this year with everyone coming to us, so it’s been quite a stupendous effort getting everything ready. But it seems to have come together, just about! As I type, James is carving the ham, carols are blasting out of the radio, Katie is practising ‘We Three Kings’ on her guitar and in spite of the wet, dreary weather outside the house feels very festive. Here are a few favourite things that give a flavour of our Christmas 2013 preparations (excuse the photos taken in a hurry and in dreadful light).
DSC_0013Playmobil Advent calendar – brilliant!

Chicken liver pate – my mother-in-law’s recipe and one of our faves.

DSC_002144 year-old vintage port, an unexpected and greatly appreciated gift. We can’t wait to try this with our cheese on Christmas day!

DSC_0028Games prepared for the Christmas Eve family party – prizes galore to be won!

DSC_0021Christmas cake made by my amazing nan. She’s 90 next year and hasn’t been too clever lately – finger’s crossed she’s on the mend. She’s a real inspiration, and of course it was she who taught me to knit.

DSC_0039I’m loving all the Scandi themed, knitting-inspired wrapping and cards that were around this year.

However you choose to mark the season I hope your preparations are going well and that you have a wonderful festive break!
